BORGERS SPEEDWAY RACING NEWS

 Co-Promoter & Media Contact  Bob Snyder  bobsnyderphoto@enter.net

Saylorsburg, PA., April 30th, 2013:  From day one when Glenn and Ruth Borger opened Borgers Speedway back in 1999 the emphasis has always been on getting youth involved in the sport of racing. The track was originally built for their grandson Brian who was a National Go Kart champion. What Glenn and Ruth started with the emphasis on youth will continue by myself, Brendan Oconnor, Jim Silfee, and Dan Shupp. The youth are the future of our sport and we will do everything in our power to further their careers.

Does anyone think they will ever see the Oconnor brothers Liam and Colin, the Silfee brothers Jared and Austin, Joey Agnello, Gavin Moyer and Meredith Howell, Jack VanVarick and others tempted by the street corner power of gangs, drugs and alcohol??? Not a chance. The character these kids already have will never allow that to happen. These kids do not have to look for heroes because they are already heroes.

Last week Joey Agnello, who has jumped into a Junior Slingshot after his scary accident last year, said to me in regards to only one car being in his feature “I was first and I was last in the same race” with a big smile on his face. This is so typical of these kids. They do not care if they win or lose. They do not care if there is one or one hundred cars in their race. All they care about is having fun and that is how it is meant to be.

Special Thanks to Penny-Wise Fuel Co. for their sponsorship of race two of the King of the Asphalt Champ Kart Series May 18.

What an awesome field of 20 MSRS MicroStocks thundering past the Borgers grandstands and in addition to the generous Borgers payout another $50 cash to first and fifth place courtesy of Brendan Oconnor Fire Protection.

Look for Checkered Flag Fan Club night August 17. The well respected organization will be signing up new members and renewing current memberships in there fine cause of aiding injured racecar drivers and crews and in addition providing awards to the winners if they are members. .

Good to see Ryan Tidman making his first appearance in the Lenny Boyd TQ and Mike Roselli in the pits preparing for this Saturday’s ATQMRA sanctioned event.

Good to see photographer Lenny Slemmer on hand. Lenny intends to make Borgers a regular stop on his busy schedule.

We all knew it would not take long for Steven Frindt to make it to victory lane in his first Champ Kart win. Proud pop Kevin joined his son for the festivities.

Good to see the return of the Oconnor brothers Liam and Colin in the Kid Kart division. Liam was really flying and it won’t take long for Colin to catch up to his big brother.

Meredith Howell moving right along with her first Junior Champ Kart win. Meredith comes from a family of racers with her mom and grandfather Dick and grandmother Connie being former racers.

Jared Silffe and Gavin Moyer still undefeated.

Tom Hennessey racking up win number one on the asphalt with his AllStar Slingshot and Mike Lapicki and Lydia Reuckheim making their return.

Won’t be long until we see Sheldon Iudicello in victory lane with a fine second place finish in the Dirt 600 Sprints. Monty Wonder III getting faster each week and looking for win number one. When will Jason Hentrich’s luck ever change but when it does “Look Out.” Can anyone stop Mike Fillbrunn? Three in a row and no sign of letting up. Look for big things on the horizon at Borgers Speedway “Where the Best Is Yet To Come.”

HENNESSEY FIRST TIME WINNER, FILLBURN UNSTOPPABLE,

AGNELO AND JANISCH REPEAT WINNERS AT BORGERS..

 Co-Promoter & Media Contact  Bob Snyder  bobsnyderphoto@enter.net

Saylorsburg, PA., April 27th, 2013:  AllStar Slingshot driver Tom Hennessey had one win to his credit but that was back in the dirt days at Borgers Speedway. Today Hennessey made it win number two but this time it was on the asphalt. Tom Arntz, Hennessey, and Hunter Smith made the dash to turn one with Arntz coming out on top. Lap four Smith made the pass on Hennessey for second while Arntz continued to lead. A lap later Arntz began to slow as Hennessey regained second from Smith and took the lead and Mike Lapicki moved to third. With Smith on his rear bumper Hennessey held off the challenge from the youngster to take his first win on asphalt. Smith, Lapicki, Arntz and Lydia Rueckheim rounded out the top five.

There appears to be no stopping Mike Fillbrunn in Hoosier Racing tires Wingless Dirt 600 Sprints as Mike racked up win number three in a row. Fillbrunn won the sprint to turn one with Jason Hentrich and Sheldon Iudicello on his tail. As Fillbrunn opened a slight lead Hentrich and Iudicello raced hard for second spot. By the half way mark Iudicello made the pass on Hentrich for second with his sights set on Fillbrunn. As the laps ticked away Fillbrunn held strong notching his third win in a row over Iudicello, Hentrich, Monty Wonder III, and Jon Cortright.

Matt Janisch made it win number two leading every lap to take the win in Hoosier Racing Tires TQ/Asphalt 600 Sprints. Ryan Tidman put the pressure on Janisch the entire distance with Don Zrinski right on his tail. Janisch took win number two followed by Tidman, Zrinski, Blu Metz, and Mike Fillbrunn.

Joey Agnello made it two in a row in Junior Slingshots. Being the only car running today Joey made the comment “I finished first and I finished last” with a big smile on his face.

The MSRS Microstocks put on a tremendous show with 20 cars taking the green for their feature event with Bob Wagner edging out Alex Greensweig. In addition to the generous Borgers payout Brendan Oconnor owner of Brendan Oconnor Fire Protection added an additional $50 cash to first and fifth place in the main.

MSRS SUPERSTARS TO INVADE BORGERS SPEEDWAY

 SATURDAY APRIL 27TH...

Co-Promoter & Media Contact  Bob Snyder  bobsnyderphoto@enter.net

Saylorsburg, PA., April 23rd, 2013:  The MicroStock Superstars of the MSRS will invade Borgers Speedway this Saturday April 27. The sleek, low slung “Asphalt Grinders” will challenge the high speed Borgers 1/7 mile oval with the MicroStocks kicking off the action starting with warm-ups at 1:00 p.m. In a continuing cooperative effort with Mahoning Speedway the Microstocks will be the first heat followed by the Karts heats. Immediately after completion of the Kart heats the MicroStocks will be the first feature in order to allow everyone ample time to make the show at Mahoning.

After Kart features we will reverse the order with the TQ/Asphalt 600 Sprints first followed by the Slingshots and Wingless Dirt 600 Sprints.

WHO’S GOT THE HOTSHOE???

Will the Silfee brothers Austin and Jared remain undefeated or will Cody Quagliato be the spoiler? Could we see Mike Eckhart Jr. making his first appearance for 2013?

Will Gavin Moyer make it three in a row or will Meredith Howell break his streak?

Will the Hot Young Rooki Jack Vanvarick make it win number two?

Will the “Papster” take another checkered flag for a ride around Borgers Speedway?

Can Lester Cole triumph again?

Can Ryan Breithoff hold off the fierce challenges from a win hungry Steven Frindt, and James Moyer and Paul Valent Jr.?

Can Mike Fillbrunn make it three in a row or will Jason Hentrich’s luck change for the better? Jon Cortright and Scott Washburn will be in the middle of the action.

Can Joey Agnello make it two in a row.

How about them Reeder brothers Kenneth and Joshua looking for that first win or the veteran Mike Moyer? Tom Hennessey is getting very impatient and it is only a matter or time and will Tom Arntz return to try for win number two?

Don “The Snake Zrinski” running like a demon being chased my the potent Metz Rides For Rent Team with Anthony Schlosser White getting very hungry. Surely can’t count out Steven Boland who is getting faster each week.

All these questions will be answered Saturday April 27 as the “Superstars of Asphalt” do battle with the “Lightning Fast Demon” Borgers Speedway where the stars don’t only shine over the racetrack they reside on the racetrack.

JACK VANVARICK VERSES JARED SILFEE

Co-Promoter & Media Contact  Bob Snyder  bobsnyderphoto@enter.net

Saylorsburg, PA., April 22nd, 2013:  This is one of those feel good stories that just needs sharing. April 13 Jack VanVarick made his debut in the Kid Kart division at Borgers Speedway. This was his first ride in a Kart and Karting Director Dan Shupp, concerned with him having no one to run with and getting discouraged, asked me if Jared Silfee could run with him. I said Dan you don’t have to ask me anything as I trust your judgment.

Like a “Big Brother” Jared ran with Jack in warm ups, the heat and feature. Most of the time Jared would stay out in front and not run away from Jack showing him how to run the track. In an act of “Total Class” coming out of the fourth turn for the checkered flag Jared dropped back and let Jack take his first checkered flag. Pretty damn impressive for a young kid in a world that tends to point out how worthless the younger generation is.

This is what builds and brings young people into the sport we all love so much. The e-mails, text messages, and phone calls I received after this was in the news story last week were overwhelming. It did not hit me until later that night doing the results what has just occurred earlier that afternoon. I have been in this sport for more then 40 years and I had just witnessed what this sport is all about.

FILLBURN, ZRINSKI, ARNTZ, & AGNELLO

HEAT UP A CHILLY AFTERNOON AT BORGERS..

Co-Promoter & Media Contact  Bob Snyder  bobsnyderphoto@enter.net

Saylorsburg, PA., April 21st, 2013:  Fourteen years ago Borgers Speedway owner and operator Glenn Borger had a dream of building a Go Kart track for his grandson Brian who was a National Champion. In those fourteen years Glenn overcame many obstacles. A successful Micro-Sprint, Slingshot, and Kart track endured many hardships all leading up to a 2011 court settlement that shut the track down. A lesser man would have given up but not Glenn Borger. In a WFMZ-TV interview Glenn said I did what the neighbors thought I would not do. The court told me what I had to do and I did it. The neighbors will not keep me from my “Field Of Dreams.” What you see now is the result of that determination. The finest 1/7 mile asphalt track in the country Borgers Speedway.

It did not take long for Mike Fillbrunn to make a return visit to Borgers Speedway victory lane in Hoosier Racing tires Wingless Dirt 600 Sprints. Fillbrunn set a blistering pace leading every lap to take the win over Jason Hentrich, Jon Cortright, Scott Washburn, and Paul Quear.

Don Zrinski led the field of Hoosier Racing Tires TQ/Asphalt 600 Sprints to turn one followed by Anthony Schlosser White and Mike Fillbrunn. A tangle with Fillbrunn and White KO’d Fillbrunn for the day’s action. Darren Schuler moved into third on lap two and a lap later got by Schlosser White. As Zrinski opened a sizeable lead a two car battle developed between Schuler and Schlosser White. Zrinski would prevail and take starter Tyler Knitter’s checkered flag followed by Schuler, Schlosser White, Bob White, and Steven Boland.

In AllStar Slingshots Tom Arntz made his first race of 2013 a good one by taking the twenty five lap main. Arntz, Mike Moyer, Tom Hennessey were first to turn one with Al Hauptman in a daring move jumping from sixth to fourth coming out of turn two. Hauptman got by Hennessey on lap four and made the pass on Moyer for second on lap five. Arntz increased his lead as Hauptman, Moyer, and Hennessey battled for second. Arntz pulled into victory lane followed by Hauptman, Moyer, Hennessey, and Kenneth Reeder.

In his debut in Junior Slingshot racing Joey Agnello led every lap to take his first Junior Slingshot feature win

BORGERS JUNIOR KART BATTLE AT THE BORG..

Co-Promoter & Media Contact  Bob Snyder  bobsnyderphoto@enter.net

Saylorsburg, PA., April 15th, 2013:  Very impressed with the “Commodore” of Borgers Speedway Junior Clone Racers, in particular Jarred Silfee playing “Big Brother” to first time Kid Kart Racer Jack Vanvarick, speedway owner Glenn Borger has instructed me to put together a major event for the Junior Racers to be held during our Second Annual OctoberFest events this fall.

Karting Director Dan Shupp will work on putting together a rules package where we can combine the Junior Clone Classes be it restrictor plates, weights, or whatever it takes to insure a large field of racers for this event.

I will work with Snydersville, Oreville, Shellhammers, Marsh Creek, Wall, and any other interested tracks in setting up qualifiers for this event. Glenn Borger has agreed to give a free entry fee to the winner of these events.

We are looking for sponsors for this event and I will kick it off by offering $100 in the form of Ten $10 photo gift certificates to the top ten finishers.

This will be a major event on our OctoberFest schedule which will give us ample time to promote this event and secure sponsorship. Out goad is to make this the “Syracuse” of Junior Clone racing.

FILLBRUNN FABULAS, SMITH SPECTACULAR, AND SESELY

STUPENDOUS IN BOGERS APRIL 13TH THRILLERS..

Co-Promoter & Media Contact  Bob Snyder  bobsnyderphoto@enter.net

Saylorsburg, PA., April 14th, 2013:  Some may consider the number “i3” unlucky but it was anything but unlucky for Mike Fillbrunn, Hunter Smith, and Anthony Sesely on April 13 at Borgers speedway.

For most of the 2012 racing season Mike Fillbrunn had to settle for runner up status in Hoosier Racing Tires Wingless Dirt 600 Sprints. With victory in sight many times Fillbrunn always seemed to have to settle for the “Bridesmaid” spot but today all that would change and it would change in a big way. In heat action Fillbrunn was fast, very fast and scored a decisive heat win. As feature time approached it became very apparent that Fillbrunn would be the man to beat.

At the drop of the green Fillbrunn blasted into turn one from his pole position starting spot with Jason Hentrich and Jason Harman hot on his rear bumper and very quickly a three car battle for the lead developed. Lap five Jon Cortright joined the hunt and passed Harman for third place. Lap after lap Fillbrunn set a torrid pace hitting the mark in every turn driving a flawless race. In the closing laps Harman regained third from Cortright catching Hentrich who was putting the pressure on Fillbrunn. With two laps to go Hentrich, plagued by mechanical problems all day, came to a stop in turn two setting up a green, white, checker shootout with Harman and Cortright trying to snatch the win from Fillbrunn. This day things would be different and Fillbrunn would not be denied the win screaming into Borgers Speedway victory lane followed by Harman, Cortright, Monnie Wonder III, and David Beiler.

In AllStar Slingshot action it would be the newcomer Hunter Smith against to crafty veterans Steve Heckman and Tom Hennessey. Smith took the early lead in his Racing For The Cures AllStar Slingshot followed by Heckman and Hennessey. Smith and Heckman opened a slight lead but soon Hennessey made his presence known. By half way Smith increased his lead over Heckman as Heckman and Hennesey duked it out for second. Hunter Smith would lead every lap to take his first checkered flag with Heckman edging out Hennessey, Mike Lapicki, and Kenneth Reeder.

Anthony Sesely set a blistering pace to take his second Hoosier Racing Tires TQ/Asphalt 600 Sprints win at Borgers Speedway the previous coming during the 2012 Greenflag Driving Experience OctoberFest Series. Sesely was unbeatable from the start winning the sprint to turn one over Mike Fillbrunn and Don Zrinski. With Zrinski on the move the “Snake” grabbed second spot on lap five with Matt Janisch roaring into third spot. As the three leaders battled for the win Sesely just got stronger taking the win over Zrinski, Janisch, Lanson Fonoro, and BJ McDonald.

We all know it takes great courage whenever anyone straps themselves into a racecar. It also takes great courage to fight the everyday battles of life. Please keep our Borgers Speedway 2012 Wingless Dirt 600 Sprint Champion and multi TQ and Dirt 600 Sprint feature winner Rob Vivona in your Thoughts and Prayers as Rob fights the biggest battle of his life. Rob has been diagnosed with a terrible disease which will most likely cause him to miss the rest of the 2013 racing season. The prognosis is very optimistic and knowing the fighter that Rob is he will beat this and be back in the driver’s seat next season. We all have our little racing squabbles and differences but something like this puts everything in perspective. Racing is important to all of us but some things are far more important and racing has to take a back seat. God Bless You Rob. We are all behind you in your fight and victory will come.

Hoosier Racing Tires Wingless Dirt 600 Sprints… Mike Fillbrunn,Jason Harman, Jon Cortright, Monnie Wonder III, David Beileer, DNF…Jason Hentrich, Tex Snydere, DNS…Paul Quear.

AllStar Slingshots… Hunter Smith, Steve Heckman, Tom Hennessey, Mike Lapicki, Kenneth Reeder, Joshau Reeder.

Hoosier Racing Tires TQ/Asphalt 600 Sprints… Anthony Sesely, Don Zrinski, Matt Janisch, Lanson Fonoro, BJ McDonald, Mike Fillbrunn, DNF… Matt Roselli, DNS… Anthony Schlosser White.

Congratulations to Ryan Breithoff for winning Glenn Borger Garage King of the Asphalt Race One.

YODER, JANISCH, YANKOWSKI, SAMONY

 TAKE BORGERS OPENING GOLD

Co-Promoter & Media Contact  Bob Snyder  bobsnyderphoto@enter.net

Saylorsburg, PA., April 6th, 2013:  Two familiar faces and two newcomers entered Borgers Speedway Victory Lane on a sunny but cool opening day.

Mark Yoder led every lap to become Borgers first winner for 2013 in Hoosier Racing Tires Wingless Dirt 600 Sprints. Yoder used his pole position starting sport to jump to an early lead with Jason Harman hot on his tail. The move upward to the Wingless Dirt 600 Sprints proved to be a wise one for Scott Washburn as he blasted into third place. On lap five Mile Fillbrunn made the pass on Washburn for third. At the halfway mark Jon Cortright joined the battle making the pass on Washburn for fourth. With three laps to go Sheldon Iudicello moved into fourth followed by Monnie Wonder III. The checkered flag would drop on Yoder, Harman, Fillbrunn, Iudicello, and Wonder.

When Mark Janisch comes to Borgers Speedway he seems to have no trouble finding a way to victory lane and he did just that in the Hoosier Racing Tires TQ/Asphalt 600 Sprint main event. Janisch led the field to starter Tyler Knitter’s green flag with Anthony Sesely and Rob vivona on his tail. Coming out of turn two on lap one vivona made the pass on Sesely for second. A torrid three car battle for the lead quickly developed between Janisch, Vivona, and Sesely with 2013 Borgers Speedway TQ Champion Don Zrinski entering the picture. Mark Yoder, fresh off his Wingless Dirt 600 Sprint win joined the hunt moving into fifth place. Former Stage One Modified standout Bill Fisher in the Metz Rides for Rent 4A proved he could dice it out with the “Big Boys” of TQ racing moving into sixth.

The top stars of Three Quarter Midget racing put on the best display of TQ racing in the history of Borgers Speedway with three and sometimes four abreast racing. Capping an afternoon of Three Quarter Midget racing as it is meant to be Janisch screamed into victory lane followed by Vivona, Sesely, Zrinski, and Yoder.

It did not take newcomer Steve Yankowski long to find the short way around Borgers Speedway in AllStar Slingshot action. Lydia Rueckheim led the pack to turn one followed by Mike Moyer and Yankowski. Moyer took the lead on lap three with Yankowski moving past Rueckheim for second a lap later and taking the lead from Moyer on lap six. By halfway Ruekheim got by Moyer for second but misfortune struck sending Ruekheim into the fourth turn wall with three laps to go. On the restart it was Yankowski, Moyer and Josh and Kenneth Reeder and that is how it would end. We are expecting sizeable increases in car counts in all divisions and many new spectators in the grandstands. The best is yet to come.”

Last Saturday 35 racers braved the cold to test on the Borgers 1/7 mile asphalt oval. Many new faces were in the pits including Josh and Eddie Reeder in their AllStar Slingshots, Jason Harman, not a new face, but making the move to the Wingless Dirt 600 Sprints in his beautiful 51 along with son Jaydon Harman in his “Carbon Copy” 51 Quarter Midget. Lanson Fornoro and Anthony Schlosser White looked very impressive in their first TQ rides.

Jay Hentrich who became a “Force To Be Reckoned With” in the 2012 Green Flag OctoberFest Series is burning the “Midnight Oil” to ready his stable of cars for a full season of racing at Borgers. RACERS BRAVE FRIGID TEMPERATURES

AS THE FORNORO LEGEND CONTINUES...

Co-Promoter & Media Contact  Bob Snyder  bobsnyderphoto@enter.net

Saylorsburg, PA., March 23rd, 2013:  Speedway owner Glenn Borger recovering nicely from his health issues over the winter usher in another racing season at Borgers Speedway with thirty five racecars braved frigid temperatures to heat up the Borger’s asphalt as open wheel racing’s “First Family” member Larson Fornoro made his Three Quarter Midget debut in the potent Blu Metz 01 TQ.

Racing talent has been prominent in the Fornoro family with the patriarch famed Midget Champion and Indy Car Flagger Nick Fornoro and sons Nokie, Drew, and now the torch being handed to Larson. Larson turned some impressive laps in the Metz ride along with Metz Rides for Rent team members Jonathon cortright and Anthony Schlosser White.

Some quick laps turned in the Wingless Dirt 600 Sprints by Joe Agnello and Former Slingshot racer Jason Harman in his beautiful Dirt 600 Sprint. Ed Wilburg made the long trip from Delaware to turn some hot laps.

Mike Lapicki and Tom Hennessey were tuning their AllStar Slingshots under the watchful eye of Stan Freidman who is itching to get back behind the wheel. A bunch of new Slingshots turned some laps which at this point I do not have names to go with thei cars.

An impressive number of Karters were on hand with Brad Hinkleman very fast as usual and Steven Frindt hooking up very quickly with his move to the Champ Karts. Pappy Curnell was showing his son the fast way around the Borgers 1/7 mile oval with Lester Cole, and the Silfee brothers Jarred and Austin in hot pursuit. A lot of new faces in the Karts and I apologize for not having names to go with the Karts at this point.

Action returns next Saturday with another practice session from 12:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. with gates opening at 11:00 a.m. Saturday April 6 will be the season opener for the start of another season of action packed racing at the Northeast’s Fastest 1/7 Mile Asphalt Oval Borgers Speedway.
